Bringing mobile lung services to you.

Lung Health Check is Canada’s first mobile lung program, bringing important services to rural, remote, and Indigenous communities in Alberta—where access is often limited.

The mobile fleet consists of two units:

  • A van equipped to perform breathing tests, known as pulmonary function tests (PFTs)—currently operating.

  • A truck that provides lung cancer screening through low-dose computerized tomography (CT) scans—launching 2026.

Meet the Fleet

Lung Health Check mobile units offer the following on-site services, with a referral from a primary care provider:

Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) van

What is it?

A PFT is a set of breathing tests that check how well your lungs work. It measures how much air you can inhale and exhale, how fast you can breathe out, and how well your lungs deliver oxygen to your blood.

The most common test—spirometry—involves blowing into a tube to assess lung capacity and airflow.

The Lung Health Check van is equipped to perform these tests using a Level 3 body box, accredited by the College of Physicians and Surgeons. It also offers pre- and post-spirometry.

Who is it for?

This test is available to anyone ages 5+ who requires a PFT for diagnosis or monitoring.

Low-dose Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan truck

What is it?

A low-dose chest CT scan is a type of x-ray that takes detailed images of your lungs to look for changes. The scan takes a few minutes and does not require an injection or dye.

It helps detect lung diseases—including early-stage lung cancer—before symptoms appear.

Who is it for?

Low-dose CT scans will be available to individuals eligible for lung cancer screening, based on Alberta guidelines

Launching in Alberta in 2026

Should I get my lungs checked?

Your lungs work hard for you every day, but when was the last time you checked in on them?

If you or a loved one experiences lingering cough, shortness of breath, chest tightness, or wheezing, it could be a sign of an underlying lung condition.

Talk to a primary care provider to see if a lung check is recommended for you or your family.
